Whiplash and neck injuries are often complicated to treat, needing specialized care.
For severe acute injuries, proper assessment is needed to get a clear picture of the extent of the injury. This is best done by an orthopedic doctor or well trained physiotherapist. Gentle massage for injuried muscles and joints is effective in helping reduce muscle spasm, inflammation and pain.
For healed chronic injuries, deep tissue techniques are effective in mobilizing and realigning developed scar tissue. By using cross-fibre work on scar tissue, I find clients experience a reduction in the frequency and intensity of their chronic pain syndrome.
One aspect of my treatments I use is anterior neck massage. For clients who have lost the normal lordotic curve of their neck (their neck alignment is straight and reversed), I find releasing the tight restricted anterior neck muscles is key to restoring normal neck mobility.
